Bamboo Crib Sheets Are Here! April 7, 2009

If you like things to be soft, silky and ultra plush, you’re going to love our new Buchic line of bamboo products. We now have bamboo crib sheets, towels, swaddle blankets, and socks. If you’ve bought an organic mattress here, now you have the perfect sheets to go with it. The swaddling blankets just might be the best I’ve seen around. They are so soft! The woven texture, with just the slightest bit of stretch, virtually guarantees a flawless wrap every time. Buchic’s towels are so luxuriously thick and soft, I wish I had one for myself. Throw in a pair of socks with any of these items for the perfect gift.

What Wouldn’t You Sell? March 24, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — queensmab @ 7:18 am

I was listening to NPR today and they had on a columnist for the Chicago Tribune who recently asked her readers, ” What wouldn’t you sell if times got so tough you had to sell some belongings?” This instantly caught my attention, partly because of the business I am in, and partly because I am constantly battling my “pack rat” ways. I, like most of the nation, am fairly attached to my material possessions. It was very interesting to hear people call in and share what is was they would never give up. If you are interested in hearing this for yourself, click here, and I’ll leave you with my little story:

I fall into the category of people who would never sell their wedding ring. Not because it’s of any value monetarily or because it represents the vows my husband and I took on our wedding day, but because it is the most romantic thing my husband has ever done for me (this memory has saved my marriage many times).

We found this ring as an estate piece in a shop in Eugene and I put it on my finger and instantly fell in love. It seemed like it was made to be on my finger. We were very young and didn’t have the money to buy it then, but every time we went to Eugene, we went to the store and it was there and I tried it on. Finally, one day my friend said “Let’s go look at your ring” and when we went we were informed the ring had been purchased that day. I was devastated and actually almost started crying. I am embarrassed to admit to my behavior — I don’t even know how Nate put up with me those next couple of months. Imagine my horror and the smile on his face when he finally gave me the ring.

So, I quickly developed a totally unhealthy attachment to my new possession. I know deep down that this memory will be with me forever even if my ring isn’t, but for a girl like me, that is a way too rational and unromantic thought.

A Rockin’ Good Time March 6, 2009

Buckin' Bronto

Buckin' Bronto

One thing I’ve noticed is that kids love to rock — and I’m not just talking about music. Nobody seems to know this better than the man behind Irreverent Baby’s “Rocking Rhino”. He has created a rocking piece of art (I can’t just call this a toy) that your child is sure to enjoy for years. Made of reclaimed hardwood and finished off with all natural linseed oil, the craftsmanship put in to each one of these is unbelievable. If you’re looking for something beyond your regular rocking horse, this is it.

I have had the “Rocking Rhino” in my shop since the holidays and it has been the most popular toy with kids climbing on and rocking away. The smaller size and thinner seat make it perfect for little ones who may be wary of larger models made for bigger kids. Though it’s still great fun for older kids, as my 3 year old asks to ride on it nearly every day.

What brings this to mind today is that one of my customers commissioned a “Buckin’ Bronto” and it was just dropped off at my store. It was ordered for her son’s 1st birthday, and I know he’s just going to love it. Though he won’t be able to climb on it just yet, it’s sturdy enough for him to pull up on and has a leather tail and spikes perfect for pulling (and chewing) on, and little nostrils for sticking his fingers in. Soon enough, he’ll throw a leg over and start rockin’!

Happy Valentine’s Day! February 14, 2009

Or as my daughter calls it — Balentine’s Day.  I constantly marvel at the fact that my children seem to make every holiday so much more enjoyable.

Maybe it’s all the love in the air today, but I’m feeling really good.  I just sent out my newsletter today and wrote that sunny days are ahead.  I was actually talking about the weather, but it got me thinking about the state of things... the world… the economy… my own business.

I honestly do believe sunny days are ahead.  All I have to do is witness the absolute excitement and innocence in my daughters to realize that all of the junk I stress about on daily basis does not matter.  Maybe, if I stop and think about it, sunny days are already here?

It’s officially the holiday season! You can’t find a parking spot at the stores anymore. Buying a gallon of milk takes an hour and a half of standing in line. If you forgot to schedule a hair appointment last month, like me, you’re out of luck… Everybody is crazy busy. This is definitely a time of stress and anxiety and just too much to do. So why do I like it so much?

If you lost the holiday spirit somewhere along growing up, there is nothing like having little ones around to bring it back. Yes, I actually got teary eyed when I took my 6 month old to get her pictures taken with Santa at the Meier and Frank downtown. I saw that Santa every year of my childhood. When I was in high school I took my younger brother myself, and when my niece was little, I took her there (being called a saint by the other moms when they found out I was waiting in line for hours with someone else’s kid). I took my girls to the store last week to pick up some Christmas lights and we had so much fun! Bea was going absolutely crazy with excitement and Margaret was totally amazed at all the twinkling lights and singing snowmen and just everything. I even got into it and made them crack up for a good 5 minutes by making all of the nutcrackers talk in funny voices.

Wait, was I supposed to be talking about a sale? Oh yeah! We’re having a fantastic sale! I just sent out 30% off one regular price item and 20% off all cribs and mattresses coupons to all of the people on my mailing list, a ton of items will be buy one get one half off, and all regular priced resale clothing will be 15% off. Also, there are a few popular items that might sell out and I’m willing to make special orders and honor the coupon. Don’t have the coupon? Don’t fret, just mention it.

Special Store Hours:

Friday, Nov 28th 9 – 3

Saturday, Nov 29th 10 – 3

Sunday, Nov 30th 10 – 3

I am opening early and closing early on Friday because my husband, the girls and I are hopping on the Max to go downtown and take in all the sights and attend the Tree Lighting. I wish you all a wonderful Thanksgiving!
